'The Watermelon Eaters'

Created for North Gallery, Watermelon Eaters explores consumption through memory, longing, and Australian summer mythology. Rooted in nostalgic sensory experiences, it invites open interpretation. Drawing on his Romani showie lineage, Nock examines performance and illusion, balancing joy with unease, where spectacle reveals tension between celebration, survival, pleasure, and uncertainty.

North Gallery’s next group exhibition, SIX, will seek to expand the traditional understanding of sculpture, welcoming works that engage with form, texture and space. Works will explore materiality, spatial relationship, storytelling and connection. This may include traditional sculpture, wall based works or other mediums that show the hand of the maker.
